Unemployment Rate in Morocco up to 9.9% in 2013-2014: HCP

Rabat – The unemployment rate in Morocco reached 9.9% in the 2013-2014 fiscal year, increasing by 0.7 points year on year, according to the High Planning Commission (HCP).The number of active unemployed Moroccans increased by 8% nationally, jumping from 1,081,000 in 2013 to 1,167,000 in 2014, which means an additional 86,000 people out of work (63,000 in urban areas and 23,000 in rural areas), said HCP in a memo on the job market situation in 2014.The rate of unemployment rose from 9.2% to 9.9% at the national level, from 14% to 14.8% in urban zones and from 3.8% to 4.2% in rural zones, said HCP. HCP noted that a larger increase in the unemployment rate was noticed in urban areas among the youth aged 15-24 (+2.1 points), women (+1.5 points) and graduates (+1.3 points).MWN with MAP
