Wellington boys sweep Rose Hill; Wellington girls get swept in last home games for 4 weeks

The Rockets won game one 7-4 and game two 9-3 at Worden Park.In game one, Wellington out-hit Rose Hill 12-9, but the Rockets manufactured more runs in the game. The Rockets opened the day with three runs on two singles and a double in the first inning. The Crusaders could not recover.Wellington’s big inning came in the bottom of the fourth when the Crusaders scored three runs off four hits. Madi Adams, Erin Goodrum and Shelby Hamel all crossed home plate with just one out. Unfortunately, Wellington left the bases loaded.Rose Hill then added two runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh for the win. Carlie McComb scored in the bottom of the sixth after singling.Wellington was 12 of 34 from the plate in game one. E. Goodrum had the Crusaders’ only double of the game.In game two, Rose Hill opened up a 6-0 lead in the first three innings as Rose Hill’s Baldridge hit a home run and a triple leading the Rockets on an 11-hit outing.Wellington didn’t score until the third inning on a McComb single that was followed by a Ryleigh Buck RBI triple. Rose Hill was comfortably ahead late when Wellington had its most productive inning in the bottom of the seventh when McKenna Oathout and McComb both scored. The Dukes ended the game leaving girls stranded on first and third.Buck had the best batting stats in game two, going 2 of 4, two RBIs and a triple.Wellington was 9 of 31 at the plate.Jade Dry was the losing pitcher in game one, allowing nine hits but no walks. She had four strikeouts. In game two, Payton Adams was the losing pitcher after allowing five hits in the first 2.21 innings. Dry cam in relief and allowed six hits and one walk.Wellington travels to Mulvane on Thursday. The Crusaders are one game from matching last year’s total with a double-header sweep against Rose Hill. The Crusaders would win game one 5-3 and game two 6-3.The Rockets opened the day with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Crusaders quickly shaved that lead in half in the bottom half of the inning by loading the bases and seeing Adam Condit single in Jalen Macias.Wellington took the lead for good in the third when Trevor Nance doubled, Condit singled, Wesley Gilmore walked and two of them came home on an Andrew Horn 2RBI smack. The Crusaders would score two more runs in the inning to lead 5-2 after three.That would sustain the Dukes the rest of the way. Rose Hill scored a run in the top of the sixth off a Harrison Haydock RBI triple. But he was left stranded.Trevor Nance was the winning pitcher in game one.In game two, Rose Hill again took a 2-0 lead and for the second time Wellington came back to take the lead to win. On Monday, Wellington would beat Rose Hill 8-7 before losing to the Rockets in the nightcap 14-4.Wellington junior varsity boys are 2-2 on the season. The Crusaders lost 9-5 and 1-0 to Rose Hill.
