first_imgAMSTERDAM, The Netherlands  – Drake University junior Bas Van Leersum (Zaandam, The Netherlands) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles at the ASICS NK Atletiek on Friday, June 17 at Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium. The event serves as the The Netherlands’ national championship for track and field.Van Leersum finished in 52.30 while Jesper Arts claimed the title in 51.18. On Thursday, Van Leersum qualified for the final by winning his qualifying heat in 53.14, the fourth-fastest preliminary time.His performance at the Dutch national championship continues an outstanding year for Van Leersum. In his first season with the Bulldogs, he won the Missouri Valley Conference title in the 400-meter hurdles in 51.66, the sixth-fastest time in school history.During the indoor season, he finished third in the 400 meters and earlier in the season, set the school record in the event at 47.53. Print Friendly Versionlast_img
