SANTEE (KUSI) — It’s one of the most horrifying things you’ll ever see. A German shepherd and a pit bull ripping each other apart. It’s nasty enough to see this kind of thing once. But twice? Brutal.“I witnessed by neighbors dog getting attacked by the pit bull, locked on his neck,” said George Scott of Santee. The same thing happened with the same dogs two years ago.The latest drama began when Mike Clinger was playing baseball with his son in their front yard. Suddenly, a bicycle rider and his pit bull stopped in front of the house, for some reason.“He stopped and started doing something. No reason to stop except to cause trouble,” said Mike Clinger, owner of the German shepherd named Zuess. And trouble it was. Clinger’s German shepherd heard the pit bull outside and darted out the front door for a nasty battle. Both dogs needed medical help and so did the owner of the German shepherd.“He attacked me, he started punching me and kicking my dog. Then he threw an aerosol can at my chest,” Clinger said. The Clingers don’t deny fault. They admit that they should have locked the door to keep Zuess inside. But they didn’t.“I would have paid for their vet bill, I know we were in the wrong, but after he assaulted me, I’m done with it,” Clinger said.Instead, the Clinger family has filed assault charges against the owner of the pit bull who attacked him. They also want a restraining order to keep him away from their home and family.“I am shaken, Elise Clinger said. “He’s putting up hundreds of flyers with our address, saying we have a killer dog. Our kids walk to school every day and see these flyers. I’m worried about this man.”Making matters even uglier. The owner of the pit bull has been calling the city and blowing the whistle on “code violations” around his neighborhood. The Clinger family was forced to take down a small home office in their garage and lay down rocks under their jets skis after the complaints were filed.“This man is a terrorist,” Clinger said. “The guy rides by our house three times a day, taunting and trying to get our dog to react.”The Sheriff’s Department has the case, but it does not appear to be urgent. As for the Clinger family.“He’s basically disrupted our lives, we can’t do the things we normally do. I feel like law enforcement needs to help,” Elise said.As for the owner of the pit bull? He appears to be unapologetic and aggressive. “I’m not done yet”, he told me over the phone. He’s referring to harassing his neighbors about “code violations.”As for the dogs, both will survive after receiving medical care. Stay tuned. Guth joined the RDA Board of Directors in April 2011. He takes the helm of the company at a turbulent time. In July, Reader’s Digest was supposedly put on the block; The Wall Street Journal cited the price tag to be worth at least $1 billion. Parent company RDA Holding Corp. announced a 6.2 percent drop in revenue to $409.4 million in the second quarter of 2011. Revenue for the RDA’s U.S. business managed to stay basically flat in Q2 2011 at $176.7 million, as compared to Q2 2010’s $177.1 million. Operating profit for the company fell 15.1 percent to $33.1 million in the second quarter, which was attributed to a “decrease in advertising at Rachael Ray and higher agent commissions” in financial statements. Every Day with Rachael Ray, which debuted a redesign in May 2011 under editor-in-chief Liz Vaccariello’s tutelage, saw ad pages fall 16.8 percent in first half 2011 from first half 2010, according to FOLIO: sister publication minonline. Guth replaces Tom Williams (who occupied the CEO seat after Mary Berner left the company), as he exits the company. According to Adweek, Guth, in an in-house email to staff, “…gave a blunt assessment of RDA, acknowledging frustration with the recurring leadership changes and pessimism in the ranks.” Guth said the company has an “unbelievably strong core business” but that it wasn’t “performing to its potential” and that he was put in place to enact “significant changes.”Williams stepped up from his role of CFO to act as both CEO and president of RDA after Berner’s departure in April. She left in the week following RDA’s naming of a new board of directors, which originally included her in the roster. After Berner’s departure, CEO of telecommunications company DELTACOM, Inc. Randall Curran became chairman of the board. In May, RDA tapped Paul Tomkins, former vice president controller of AT&T Business Solutions, as CFO and executive vice president in Williams’ place.

New York Auto Show 2019 Cadillac Originally published April 16. 2018 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In: Drive softly and carry a big battery 3:59 The CT5, as well as the smaller CT4 sedan due later this year, is supposed to be better aligned with luxury-sedan market segments. Where previously the ATS and CTS didn’t necessarily match up with rivals directly — and the CT6, CTS and XTS overlapped quite a lot — Cadillac hopes its new sedan lineup will fit into neater boxes. The CT5 will rival cars like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, while the CT4 will be a bit smaller and compete with the likes of the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class.The 2020 CT5 is shorter in length than the CTS but has a wheelbase nearly 1.5 inches longer. That gives the car fantastic proportions with very short overhangs at each end. It’s quite the looker in person, whether in Premium Luxury guise (shown in burgundy) or the Sport trim (pictured in gray).”Frankly, this is one of the vehicles that I’ve been waiting to show you,” said Cadillac executive director for global design Andrew Smith. “I really wanted this vehicle to feel light, agile.”Enlarge ImageThe inside of the CT5 can be equipped with wood, leather, carbon fiber and lots of technology. Cadillac Compared to the creased ATS, the CT5 has a somewhat tamer look, with few ridges on the sheet metal; Smith describes the look as “big, clean surfaces with punctuated details.” The wide and low nose features a huge interpretation of Cadillac’s usual grille design, while LED daytime running lights extend from the lower bumper, into the headlights, and onto the front fender. The door handles are electrically actuated by touching a button on the inside of the fixed handle. With quite a sloping roofline that plunges toward the trunklid, the CT5 almost has a fastback look in profile. One odd detail is the piece on the C-pillar that’s meant to look like a quarter window but is actually a black trim panel. Still, it helps round out the car’s daylight opening nicely.Out back, look for Y-shaped signature elements in the taillights and a trunklid that has an integrated spoiler. You’ll also spot Cadillac’s new torque-based powertrain badges, for instance “550T.” Sport models are distinguished by a unique grille treatment, blacked-out exterior trim and different interior pieces like Magnesium paddle shifters, alloy pedals, carbon fiber and available two-tone leather seats.Enlarge ImageThe sloping roofline hurts rear-seat headroom. Cadillac It’s inside the cabin that the CT5 represents the biggest step forward from the ATS and CTS, with a fresher design packed with genuine, great-feeling wood, leather and metal. “If it looks like it, it should be it,” Smith said of the interior materials. There’s a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display atop the dash, which can also be controlled by a rotary controller on the center console or a tiny knob below the screen, next to the volume knob. Available connectivity tech includes two USB Type C ports and one Type A port, wireless phone charging and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An angled holder in the console called the “Phone Shrine” has a pass-through for a cable so you can plug in your phone for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The back seat has a good amount of leg- and kneeroom, but the sloped roofline means my head touches the headliner when I sit up straight. The lower seat cushion is quite short, and the outboard seat bolsters are angled, which will likely be uncomfortable for broader passengers. Trunk cargo capacity rings in at 11.9 cubic feet.Enlarge ImageCadillac’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous system will be available as an option. Cadillac Available features include a huge suite of active-safety features, a 360-degree camera system, standard remote start, heated and cooled seats, Bose audio systems and a sunroof. Active noise cancellation and acoustic glass are standard to keep noise out, while a system called “engine sound enhancement” pumps in extra noises to give drivers a sense of the car’s engines at work. The headlining technology is, of course, Super Cruise. Cadillac’s partially automated driver-assist feature can handle steering, accelerating and braking in certain situations on premapped highways; it debuted on the CT6 but will soon roll out to more Cadillac models. Cadillac says Super Cruise will be offered on some CT5 trim levels from calendar-year 2020.Beneath the sheet metal, the Cadillac CT5 rides on a version of General Motors’ Alpha platform, which endowed the ATS, CTS and Chevrolet Camaro with great driving dynamics. Cadillac name-checks high-end parts in the car’s chassis: ZF Modular Valve System dampers, a Bosch rack-mounted electric-power steering system and optional Brembo brakes. Aluminum is used for the front doors, hood and some chassis components to help achieve a 50:50 weight balance. An electric brake booster allows for varied levels of brake-pedal effort depending on driving mode.Enlarge ImageSport models get different design touches but a largely similar chassis setup to the CT5 Luxury models. Cadillac Powertrain choices comprise a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, good for 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 boasting 335 hp and 400 lb-ft. Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and feature cylinder deactivation tech to save fuel. Both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations are available. The 2.0-liter is the first GM four-cylinder with cylinder deactivation, and it uses a sliding camshaft that physically moves side-to-side to swap between high-lift, low-lift and cylinder-off lobes. The CT5’s Sport trim levels will not have significantly different suspension tuning compared to the Luxury models, representatives said, and no summer-tire options are offered. But Cadillac hints that future V Series performance models could be on the way down the road. The 2020 Cadillac CT5 looks appealing both inside and out, with fresher design and a better feature set than the ATS and CTS. Experience with those cars, as well as the current Camaro, also suggests that any car riding on the Alpha platform should be quite good to drive, too. With all that in mind, we’re looking forward to getting behind the wheel at some point before the CT5 goes on sale this fall. Netgear, a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, on Tuesday introduced a Wifi router for your home that sets a new standard for speed, features and performance. The latest addition to the company’s premium Nighthawk product line of Wifi routers, Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router (R8500), delivers amazing internet performance with combined WiFi speeds up to a blistering 5.3Gbps-plus, a new record for a home router, the company said in a release here. This quad-stream, tri-band router provides more internet bandwidth for all the devices in your home, so everyone in the family can stream movies and music, download files, surf the web, share photos, and enjoy online gaming — simultaneously and without lag.Engineered initially with an elegant modern design, the Nighthawk X8 is powered by an extremely powerful 1.4GHz dual core processor for faster connections — the industry’s first, patent-pending Active Antennas to boost range. It supports more wired connections with six Gigabit Ethernet ports including two that can be aggregated for faster file transfers.Due to the recent popularity of mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets, the average household today has more than 12 Wifi devices connecting to its network, according to a new survey conducted by market research firm Market Lab. The production of these devices is expected to grow exponentially in the next few years as the “Internet of Things” (IoT) smart home becomes a reality, the company said. The next-generation Nighthawk X8 Wifi router from Netgear ensures the bandwidth required to support this ever-growing number of networked devices.Today’s homes combine many new and old Wifi devices that slow down overall performance. The Smart Connect feature of the tri-band Nighthawk X8 is engineered to intelligently segment slower and faster devices into the most appropriate Wifi band so that not only can the fast devices run faster, but even older devices will offer better performance.Netgear Nighthawk X8, Tri-Band, Quad-Stream AC5300 WiFi Router will be available in India from January at a price of Rs.27,000.

This story originally appeared on Business Insider December 2, 2015 2 min read Free Webinar | Sept 5: Tips and Tools for Making Progress Toward Important Goals Google has allegedly been tracking search histories and other personal information from students, says a new complaint filed by The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) with the Federal Trade Commission. The EFF claims that Google has been “collecting, maintaining, using, and sharing” data from students who use its Chromebooks in schools, and its educational apps.Google’s “Sync” feature for Chrome is enabled by default on the Chromebooks it sells to schools, according to the EFF. “This allows Google to track, store on its servers, and data mine for non-advertising purposes, records of every Internet site students visit, every search term they use, the results they click on, videos they look for and watch on YouTube, and their saved passwords,” the EFF said in a statement. The EFF finds this tracking particularly egregious because, in January, Google signed the “Student Privacy Pledge,” a “legally enforceable document,” which promises that the company won’t collect this type of information from students.“Despite publicly promising not to, Google mines students’ browsing data and other information, and uses it for the company’s own purposes. Making such promises and failing to live up to them is a violation of FTC rules against unfair and deceptive business practices,” EFF Staff Attorney Nate Cardozo said. “Minors shouldn’t be tracked or used as guinea pigs, with their data treated as a profit center. If Google wants to use students’ data to ‘improve Google products,’then it needs to get express consent from parents.”A Google spokesperson provided this statement to Business Insider:”Our services enable students everywhere to learn and keep their information private and secure. While we appreciate EFF’s focus on student privacy, we are confident that these tools comply with both the law and our promises, including the Student Privacy Pledge.”You can read the EFF’s entire complaint here.
