Newly-commissioned roundabout unveiled as “Clive Lloyd Drive”

first_imgThe newly-commissioned Vlissengen Road and Carifesta Avenue roundabout was on Monday officially declared the Clive Lloyd Drive following a special unveiling ceremony.The roundabout, which leads to the Rupert Craig Highway, saw the former Windies skipper and legend being honoured by members of his club, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC); Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Presidency’s Department of Public Service, Georgetown Mayor Patricia Chase Green and sponsors from Top Brandz.DCC President Roger Harper, Georgetown Mayor Patricia Chase Green, sponsors from Top Brandz and others during the official unveiling of the Clive Lloyd roundaboutPermanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Presidency’s Department of Public Service and Master of Ceremonies, Reginald Brotherson, believed that the move was ideal as it not only recognised the legend, but beautified the city in the process.Mayor Chase Green, while calling for the proper maintenance of the Boards, said the event was special as it helped to recognise an important figure in Guyana’s cricketing history.Lloyd, whose first Test was back in 1966 against India, was one of the top tier players of the golden age, winning the first-ever 50-Over World Cup in 1975.
